Community Involvement and Events
Amherst Federal Credit Union strives to be an active partner in our community by providing financial support or other in-kind contributions and by participating in public service activities. Over the years, we have supported a variety of charitable organizations and community events. Most recently we have worked with the following organizations; which include current events, continuous drives and recent involvement. Gold Star Mothers, Quarter 4 2017 The American Gold Star Mothers is a non-profit organization of mothers who have lost sons or daughters in the armed forces. To learn more about the Gold Star Mothers, visit goldstarmoms.com. Through the Buffalo VA, Amherst Credit Union was able to adopt a Gold Star Family for the 2017 holiday season. We will be accepting monetary donations as well as unwrapped gifts in the AFCU office until December 11, 2017.
Breast Cancer Awareness, October 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017
For the months of August through October Amherst FCU begins fundraising for Breast Cancer Awareness in memory of our dear friend and loan officer Ruth Duke. For donations of $1+ members will receive a small breast cancer awareness gift. All proceeds are donated to charities that help cancer patients. So far in 2017, we have raised over $1400.00! You will also find the Amherst FCU staff walking in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk in downtown Buffalo every year.

WNYHeroes is a non-profit organization dedicated to making a difference for our Veterans and Troops. They offer financial assistance for disabled veterans, Return and Recover, and multiple grant programs. For more information about supporting WNYHeroes, visit wnyheroes.org. AFCU participated in WNY Heroes’ Adopt-a-Veteran-Family program by ‘adopting’ families for the holidays since 2013. In 2016, we raised over $1100 for WNY Heroes and were able to donate over 30 gift cards for various stores around WNY.

AFCU participates in Hospice Buffalo’s Spring Bouquet Sale by taking pre-sale orders for beautiful mixed bouquets and Tribute bouquets. With the purchase of each Tribute bouquet, a mixed bouquet was donated to a local Hospice patient.

With an on-going tradition of excellence, UNYTS strives to be the recognized leader in the multi faceted delivery of exceptional, donor centered organ, tissue, eye and blood donation services to the Western New York community. Thanks to our members we donated $100 and over 100 canned items to the Tri-Community Food Pantry in Depew in 2015.
Cell Phones For Soldiers, Ongoing
Cell Phones For Soldiers is a program that keeps our troops overseas connected to their loved ones back home. Want to help? Just donate a used cell phone during your next visit to our credit union. Your phone will be recycled, and the funds will be used to help purchase 60-minute calling cards for soldiers to call home with! Click here to learn more. Bring your used phone into our location during your next visit. We sincerely appreciate your help. And rest assured, our soldiers overseas will too.

AFCU participates in the THANK A VET discount program through the Erie County Clerk’s Office. AFCU offers ½% off of the applicant’s qualifying rate for any personal loan or new/used auto loan. Miracle Jeans Day, Ongoing
Miracle Jeans Day allows groups and individuals alike to trade their traditional work attire for jeans and help raise funds for kids at their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. Since its beginning, Miracle Jeans Day has raised more than $1.4 million to help fund life-saving medical needs in Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
